The ‘taste’ of VR games

To make VR more realistic, content creators use many different effects such as haptic technologies, vibration and even smelling (Nosulus RIft); recently taste technology was developed by scientists in Singapore and Tokyo.

The main idea is to stimulate taste buds by using electrodes. Singaporean inventors have been creating and researching in this field since 2013. Specifically, they have developed a spoon with an extremely small electrode grid that can stimulate tongue papilla and recreate bitter, sour and salty tastes. However, only Tokyo scientists have succeeded in ‘creating’ a sweet taste.

An electrical fork of Tokyo-based inventors looks like a box with a head made of 9V batteries. It uses 4 elements that increase temperature up to 41 degrees Fahrenheit over several seconds. As a result, tastebuds are irritated which allows for a feeling of eating an actual meal.

When this technology will be able for wide market consumption is not certain at this point, however, scientists are hoping as soon as possible.
