Sony Pictures shows interest in Nokia OZO Virtual Reality camera

OZO is claimed to be “the first Virtual Reality device to capture 360° spherical video”. The possibility of making videos online in VR impressed Sony so much so that the company decided to sign a deal and use the Nokia OZO camera to create their own VR content.

The OZO was released in March with an initial price of $60,000. However, it wasn’t popular, which is why the the cost was lowered in August; now it runs for about $45,000.

When a video is being shot it is also edited by the OZO. It makes work that much easier rather than relying on editors who need a lot of time to choose material. The OZO is fitted out by 8 cameras (viewing angles are 195°) and 8 microphones. Its picture resolution is 2Kx2K, which brings image quality to a new level. Users will be able to watch their videos via an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear VR. This format will provide a wide range of opportunities in cinematography, advertising and other entertainment industries.
