Only thousands, not hundreds of thousands, of Microsoft Hololenses will be sold

The company announced that they will sell only thousands of their AR headset.

The Microsoft Hololens was released in November last year in two versions, the Developmental Edition (nearly costs $3,000 USD) and the Commercial Suite (nearly costs $5,000 USD). The main advantage of the AR headset is that it understands gestures and positional tracking, all in real time. However, because of its high price and atypical style of "mixed reality" people are not ready to buy it.

Surprisingly, developers do not regret these results.

“We’re not trying to sell hundreds of thousands or millions or anything, it’s expensive, and it’s not in huge numbers. So we’re happy with the level of sales that we’ve got – I can’t tell you anything about the numbers, but it’s in thousands, not hundreds of thousands, and that’s fine. That’s all we need.” – said Microsoft’s Hololens Commercial Lead, Roger Walkden.

But the Commercial Lead potential customers that this was was only the first version of the headset. On how he foresaw the project’s development, he did not provide any particular answer.

"There's a roadmap. I can't tell you anything about it, though. [Microsoft] keep that kind of information way clear of me so that I don't accidentally tell you anything".
