Transformation of Oculus Status

Oculus became a member of Facebook corporation in 2014. The Oculus project started as a perspective startup five years ago. Using crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign, Oculus soon raised $2,4 Million.

“I won’t make a penny of profit off this project, the goal is to pay for the costs of parts, manufacturing, shipping, and credit card/Kickstarter fees with about $10 left over for a celebratory pizza and beer.” — shared Palmer Luckey, two years before the project had been launched.

On March 25, 2014 Facebook announced that they would be acquiring Oculus for $2 Billion. For a while, the company remained an independent operation within Facebook, but after the co-founder of Oculus VR and the inventor of Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey, has officially left Oculus for unclear reasons, Oculus incrementally became a Facebook department. Starting October, 2016 sign “from Facebook” has appeared on all Oculus advertising materials.

Since Facebook was founded in 2004, it has acquired or merged with 61 companies. Most of those were assimilated altogether. For now, however, Facebook decided to save the name of Oculus.
